Apply NowFancy showcasing your Latin or Greek? Enter the Omnibus translation or essay competitions to test your accuracy and creativity, sharpen classicist skills, and earn recognition that can boost your uni or career applications.
The Classical Association’s Omnibus magazine runs two annual competitions for students under 19 in full-time pre-university education: a translation prize and an essay prize. The competitions are designed for young classicists who want to showcase their knowledge, accuracy and creativity, whether through translating Greek and Latin texts or through writing a short essay on a classical theme.
The translation competition invites one entry per person and asks entrants to translate a set passage from Greek or Latin prose or verse, though they may use another suitable text if they include a copy of it with their submission. The essay competition invites concise, well-argued responses to classical questions, with a maximum length of 2,000 words.
Both competitions require teacher confirmation of eligibility, are judged anonymously on quality, and offer cash prizes and other rewards for the winners.
