Dartmouth Summer Scholars (Dartmouth College)
Apply NowReady to negotiate peace on a global stage? Join Dartmouth's two-week summer course to explore causes of conflict, build negotiation skills, lead a UN Security Council simulation and boost your uni/career prospects with hands-on research and faculty access.
This on-campus Dartmouth Summer Scholars program offers an intensive two-week course in international conflict resolution and negotiation aimed at motivated high school students. The curriculum covers causes and resolutions of civil wars, the role of the United Nations in peacemaking, and practical negotiation methods.
The course combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning, including a capstone UN Security Council simulation and structured research sessions supported by Dartmouth librarians. Students engage with guest speakers and subject experts, draft resolutions, participate in debates, and develop written and oral communication skills.
The program provides field trips to Dartmouth facilities such as the Dickey Center for International Understanding and emphasizes small, interactive classes and research-led activities. Instructors include Megan Becker, PhD, and other faculty and practitioners in international relations.
Residential and day options are offered. Participants receive detailed performance reports, instructor feedback, and a branded course completion certificate; credit-bearing classes provide grade reports and transcript instructions where applicable.
Visa support and international-student services are provided as described in the program materials.
