Join Conservation Travel Africa to monitor rhinos and elephants, support anti poaching and conservancy work, then assist primate rehabilitation, enrichment and releases - build field skills and boost your university and career prospects.
This combination Conservation & Rehabilitation Experience places volunteers on a private rhino conservancy and at Zimbabwe’s only dedicated primate rehabilitation centre. Participants support endangered species conservation - including monitoring rhino and elephant behaviour, anti-poaching and conservancy management tasks - then transfer to Bulawayo to assist with hands-on primate care, rehabilitation, enrichment and release work.
Daily activities include telemetry tracking and game counts, foot patrols and fence maintenance, animal feeding and husbandry, bottle-feeding and troop reintroduction for primates, behaviour enrichment and participation in community outreach and education. Volunteers live on-site in shared accommodation at the conservancy (Numwa House or a wilderness tented camp) and in a purpose-built house at the primate sanctuary; three meals per day and airport transfers are included.
The programme runs year-round with Monday arrivals; the page notes packages and pricing in USD (from $1,825 for a combined one-week Rhino + one-week Primate package). The project is family-friendly, accepts small groups (max 12), requires reasonable mobility, and requires travel insurance and any necessary visas.
Solo volunteers must be at least 17 years old according to the FAQs, while the page also references 16+ in some sections.
