Spend two days with a council department, then tackle workshops and project work before presenting your findings on the final day. You could also meet the Corporate Management Team, the Chief Executive and elected councillors.

Closes 1 December 2026

This work experience programme gives young people a meaningful experience of the workplace while building skills for future education, employment and training. It is aimed at 15- to 17-year-olds in Years 10 to 12 who meet at least one of the stated eligibility criteria.

The week begins with a welcome event, a corporate induction and a project briefing from the Apprenticeships and Early Careers Team. Participants then spend two days with a council department before returning for workshops and project work, finishing by presenting their findings on the final day.

Along the way, students can meet members of the Corporate Management Team, the Chief Executive and elected councillors, and should note any particular field of interest in their application.
