Want to see how a top gallery really works? Join an eight-week workshop at The Photographers’ Gallery to explore curating, digital tools, marketing and behind-the-scenes access. Build practical skills, connect with industry and boost your uni or career applications.

Taking place across eight weekly sessions between 29 January and 26 March 2026, Inside Out: The Workings of a Photographic Gallery is a practical course that explores how photographic practice is presented and sustained within the contemporary photography sector. Sessions combine lectures, behind-the-scenes visits to The Photographers' Gallery, group discussion and practical work, and address topics including exhibition strategies, the impact of digital technologies, education and marketing, and the Gallery's programme of talks, events and sales.

Each week a different member of The Photographers' Gallery staff and guest contributors (photographers and artists) will give a behind-the-scenes look at their department, with sessions covering the history of the Gallery, organisational structures, public engagement and youth programmes, audience development and marketing, digital developments, print sales and commercial activity, funding and development, and a final reflective session.

One session (5 Mar) will take place on Zoom; one session (19 Mar) will take place at the University of Westminster.

A number of partial bursaries covering 50% of course fees will be awarded on a first-come basis. Applicants who wish to be considered for a bursary should submit a statement (max. 500 words) to projects@tpg.
