Placements range from taster days to one- or two-week programmes, with hands-on activities or work shadowing depending on the opportunity. Learn from experienced NHS staff and explore routes into volunteering and apprenticeships.

CPFT NHS Trust work experience gives people of all ages the chance to explore careers in health and social care. It offers an insight into what it is like to work within the NHS, while learning from experienced staff already working in the environment.

It is suitable for people who are thinking about their future or considering a career change in healthcare.

Placements range from taster days to one- or two-week programmes, with some longer opportunities available. Depending on the placement, participants may take part in hands-on activities or focus on observation and work shadowing.

The programme is designed to help people gain insight into NHS roles, build confidence, develop useful skills, and meet professionals across clinical and non-clinical teams.

The experience also helps participants understand the Trust’s values and culture, while exploring next steps such as volunteering, apprenticeships, and longer-term career pathways in health and social care. Placements are advertised online, and applicants complete an online application form for the opportunity that interests them.
