Curious about craft that changed a century? Explore the Wrens’ handbuilt ceramics at Oxshott Pottery — discover how Denise, Henry and Rosemary shaped Britain’s studio-pottery revival, learn craft history, and connect with making, selling and teaching that widened ceramics’ reach.
Handbuilt: The Wrens and the Oxshott Pottery explores the work of Denise Wren, Henry Wren and Rosemary Wren, a family of studio potters who lived and worked at Oxshott Pottery in Surrey from 1920 to 1978. The exhibition looks at how the Wrens helped shape the twentieth-century revival of studio pottery in Britain, combining making, selling, teaching and writing to make ceramics feel accessible to a wider audience.
The display brings together objects from the Crafts Study Centre’s collections, loans from Kingston Heritage Service and private collections, plus material from Elmbridge Museum, including pottery, tools, studio paraphernalia and the hand-carved Oxshott Pottery door. It presents the Wrens as inventive makers with a practical, hands-on outlook, and shows how their work sat between art, craft and everyday life.
The exhibition runs at the Crafts Study Centre in Farnham from 14 July 2026 to 27 February 2027.
