Make single- and multi-section notebooks from start to finish, learning traditional folding, cutting and stitching techniques in a four-day bookbinding workshop. Build hard covers with bookcloth and decorative paper, then take your finished books home.

Closes 20 February 2027

This four-day bookbinding workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of the craft. Students make a variety of single and multi-section notebooks from start to finish, using traditional tools and techniques such as folding, cutting, stitching pages, and making hard covers from bookcloth and decorative paper.

The course is designed as an inspiring introduction to the ancient craft of bookbinding, with a focus on the basic principles and structures that can support progression towards a City & Guilds qualification. By the end of the workshop, participants will have created finished books to take home, along with the skills to continue making more.

The workshop is led by award-winning professional bookbinder Mylyn McColl and Amy Kitcherside. It is aimed at creative young people who enjoy working with their hands and want to develop practical making skills in a specialist craft environment.
