Turn wood on a lathe, learning safe tool use before shaping it with gouges. Build accuracy, planning, focus and teamwork as you make a pen, an egg cup and a small bowl, with all equipment, tools and wood provided.

Closes in 20 days

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to wood turning on a lathe, starting with the basics of making a piece of wood into a round cylinder and then shaping it with gouges. You will learn how to work safely with the equipment and tools before moving on to practical making, developing confidence as you create small finished pieces.

Across the workshop, participants make a range of items including a pen, an egg cup and a small bowl. All equipment, tools and wood are provided, and no previous experience is needed, making it a strong introduction for anyone who wants to work creatively with wood and develop practical making skills.

The workshop is designed for young people who enjoy working with their hands and want to build transferable skills such as accuracy, planning, focus and teamwork. Places are very limited, so applicants are encouraged to apply early.
