Croydon Health Services NHS Trust’s work experience programme gives students a practical introduction to life in the NHS. It combines workplace shadowing with interactive workshops, helping participants understand how a hospital trust works and giving them insight into a range of roles, from nursing through to corporate services.
The programme is designed as an early step for young people who are curious about careers in healthcare or want to learn more about working in a busy NHS environment.
The experience usually runs over five days and is split between time in a department or service and workshops and activities at Shirley House, Croydon University Hospital. Where available, students may rotate between different areas, although placements in some services cannot be guaranteed.
The programme also focuses on transferable skills such as teamwork, networking, and representing Trust values.
Applications are made through an online Microsoft Forms application. Shortlisted applicants are invited to an informal interview before offers are made. The Trust does not support placements in certain higher-risk or confidential areas, and surgery/theatre placements are only available to students aged 17 or over.
