Shadow teams in Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Radiology or Pathology, and see how hospital departments work in practice. Placements are usually one week, Monday to Friday, and are observation-only.

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust offers shadowing-only work experience across a range of hospital departments, including Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Radiology and Pathology. The placements are aimed at students who are thinking about a healthcare career or applying to university and want to see how hospital teams work in practice.

Depending on the department, students may observe areas such as General Medicine, Trauma Orthopaedics, Stroke, musculoskeletal care, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Blood Transfusion.

The scheme is designed to give a realistic insight into hospital life, but it is not a hands-on placement. Work experience is unpaid, usually lasts one week from Monday to Friday, and some specialist areas are offered for shorter periods.

Applicants need to be at least 17 at the time of placement, and school approval is required because dates cannot be changed once booked. The Trust asks for an online application, a CV and a strong supporting statement, and you cannot move to another department once placed.
