Fancy diving into university-level English? Join Debate Chamber’s five-day in-person summer school to explore Anglo-Saxon to modernism, build close-reading and discussion skills, connect with peers and boost your uni and career prospects through expert seminars and guided debates.

The English Literature Summer School (in-person) from Debate Chamber is a five-day programme that introduces students aged 15E2-89 to university-level study through seminars, close reading and guided discussion. Topics for 2026 include Anglo-Saxon and Middle English, Renaissance literature, metaphysical poetry, the Romantic movement, the rise of the novel, modernism, literature in translation, and adaptation/intertextuality.

Teaching runs Monday 27 July E2-89 Friday 31 July 2026 with daily sessions from 10:30am to 4:30pm. Sessions emphasise literary criticism methods (e.g., historicism, psychoanalysis) and group debate to develop analytical skills and prepare students for advanced study and university applications.

Practical information: the course takes place at Woburn House, Bloomsbury, Central London (nearest tube: Russell Square). It is non-residential so accommodation must be arranged independently. Course fee A3845, with a 25% non-refundable deposit required to secure a place; the balance is due eight weeks before the course.
