This online workshop focuses on deepening how musicians listen, research, and build their personal musical libraries. Matthew Christian guides participants through practical ways to pay attention more intentionally, encouraging them to think about what they already hear, who they listen to, and how those habits shape their musicianship.
The session explores the idea of personal lineage in music: the players, eras, regions, and sounds that influence a musician’s ear. It also looks at how to navigate the vast online world of music more effectively, including how to browse for recordings, find rare material, and identify useful resources for study and inspiration.
Participants can expect a mix of discussion and guided experiments, along with take-home resources and an invitation to connect with Matthew’s listening club. The workshop is open to all musicians and listeners, and it is designed for all levels.
