DLA Piper's Solicitor Apprenticeship is a six-year programme that combines workplace learning with academic study to qualify apprentices as solicitors. Apprentices study towards a Level 7 degree (LLB Hons in Legal Practice and Skills) and work towards the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE).
Tuition fees are fully funded by the firm and apprentices receive a salary while they learn.
During years 1-4 apprentices complete four 12-month rotations across practice groups; in years 5-6 they complete four 6-month rotations, with opportunities for client work and international secondments. The role typically consists of four days per week in practice (80% on-the-job learning) and one day per week dedicated to university study (20%).
Apprentices follow a bespoke development plan delivered through the DLA Piper Academy and receive induction, regular training and assigned university-based skills coaching.
The firm looks for applicants who can present a clear, well-evidenced application: a strong, error-free CV, quantified achievements, specific examples of skills and a demonstrated reason for wanting to join DLA Piper as a Solicitor Apprentice. Apprentices report being given responsibility, varied legal work and broad professional development throughout the programme.
