Shadow staff across clinical and non-clinical hospital departments, from Medicine and Nursing to Admin, and see how the wider health service works. The observational placement builds confidence and organisation skills; under-18s need a parent or guardian to sign their forms.
Work Experience at DBTH gives participants the chance to gain insight into careers across a hospital trust and the wider health service. Placements are available in both clinical and non-clinical areas, with departments such as Medicine, Nursing and Admin among the options.
The programme is designed to help learners build confidence, improve organisation and time-management skills, and understand workplace culture in a busy NHS setting.
Placements are offered in set cohorts across the year and are allocated on a first come, first served basis, subject to department availability. Opportunities are observational only, so participants will shadow staff rather than carry out practical duties.
Some departments cannot host work experience, and there are age restrictions for certain areas, including a higher minimum age for clinical placements and some 18+ areas.
To apply, candidates must download and complete the application form, then return it during the relevant application window by email. Successful applicants must also complete Occupational Health clearance and provide vaccination information, and those under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign their forms.
Local students and adults considering a career change can both apply.
