Befriend hospice patients, families and bereaved people through visits or calls, offering a listening ear and practical support where appropriate. You could connect in someone’s home, a community setting or the hospice unit, with training, ongoing support and expenses covered.
Under the guidance of the head of service, this volunteer role provides a befriending and support service to help patients, their families and people who matter to them. The role is centred on listening, offering practical support where appropriate, and helping to promote quality of life and independence for people in their own homes, in community settings, or as inpatients on the hospice unit.
Support may also be offered to people who have been bereaved.
Volunteers may support people in person, or through virtual contact such as Skype, Zoom or telephone. The role is suited to people interested in health and social care, mental health, mentoring, and supporting people.
You will need to be a good listener, communicate sensitively, and feel comfortable building warm, supportive relationships. Training, ongoing support, insurance cover and expenses reimbursement are provided, and the opportunity is suitable for under 18s.
Expenses reimbursed for public transport or mileage.
