English in Action is a study day for A-level English Literature students, bringing together expert speakers, close textual analysis and exam-focused support in one in-person event. The day centres on Shakespeare’s Othello and F.

Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, helping students deepen their understanding of theme, structure, context and critical interpretation. The programme includes a poetry session with Carol Ann Duffy, analysis of the structure of The Great Gatsby, exploration of Othello’s themes and perspectives, a session on staging Shakespeare for performance, and a contextual talk on The Great Gatsby in American literature between the wars.

It also includes explicit support for Assessment Objectives 1-5 and an additional exam session, with the aim of building confidence and improving exam performance.
