This is a 5-year Electro-Mechanical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship with Babcock based in Bristol. You will earn a BEng (Hons) in Electro-Mechanical Engineering while working on real defence and naval engineering projects, supporting activities such as Launch Control Systems, R&D and In-Service Support.

The role combines on-the-job training with day-release study and mentoring from experienced engineers.

Training is delivered through Weston College (Global Technology Centre, Filton) and the University of the West of England (Frenchay Campus) on a day-release basis, covering engineering theory and practical skills directly relevant to your role at Babcock. The programme is designed to develop electrical design, requirements definition, test equipment use and hands-on skills, progressing you toward responsibilities of an Electrical Design Engineer and professional registration pathways.

The apprenticeship is offered on-site in Bristol (with study at partner campuses). The role includes a salary of £23,776 per year, a fully funded qualification, personal development training, pension membership, share scheme and at least 28 days holiday.

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or above, including Mathematics, English and a Science, Technology or Engineering-related subject
  • AND one of the following: 3 A Levels (including Maths at grade B or above, one Science/Technology/Engineering or additional Mathematics subject at grade C or above, and a third subject at grade C or above) OR 90+ credits in a Level 3 Engineering BTEC (must include the Further Maths unit)
  • Many apprenticeship programmes are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions; place of birth, nationality, citizenship or residency may impact eligibility
  • Must be able to achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and Security Check (SC) clearance
