This is a three-week Engineering Design Methodology Summer Academy hosted on the University of Texas at Austin campus, aimed at high-school students aged 14–18. Participants work in small teams to take a product from concept to functional prototype, following first-year undergraduate design and engineering principles.
The program emphasizes teamwork, design thinking, modelling performance, materials selection, manufacturing processes and iterative testing. Students receive hands-on laboratory and workshop time guided by university-approved instructors, with access to UT Austin facilities.
The academy includes structured daytime sessions, supervised residential life for boarding students (or a day-student schedule), afternoon/evening activities and excursions. On successful completion students receive a Course Completion Certificate and a Letter of Recognition; credit-bearing classes provide grade reports and instructions for requesting transcripts where applicable.
International students are supported with visa guidance, optional airport shuttles (additional fee), and an international registration fee that covers insurance and arrival assistance. Participants are responsible for arranging flights; some transportation and housing are included in tuition depending on the program option.
Course Completion Certificate; Letter of Recognition from Summer Institute. Possible college credit for credit-bearing classes (acceptance of credits depends on receiving university policies).
