Choose from five research themes, from medieval manuscripts to social media and thinking, and join a group of up to ten led by a Masters or PhD student. Eight online sessions build towards presenting your project at an in-person day.

Closes 3 January 2027

Young Researchers 2027 is an online super-curricular programme for Year 10 students at UK state schools. Applicants choose from one of five small research projects, and each group has no more than ten students.

Every project is led by an experienced Masters or PhD student who acts as Group Leader and supports students throughout the programme.

Across eight online sessions running between January and March, students explore their chosen research theme, share ideas with their group, and complete independent activities between sessions to prepare for the next meeting. The programme is designed to develop confidence in academic discussion, independent thinking, and collaborative research.

Towards the end of the programme, students prepare a presentation based on the project and the work they have completed independently. They then deliver this presentation at an in-person day at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

The available projects include themes on social media and thinking, humans and wildlife sharing space, medieval manuscripts, hospital environments and patient experience, and education and social mobility.
