Get hands-on environmental work across a nature reserve, woodland, orchard and gardens at Haslam Park. Take on tasks from tree planting and coppicing to pond work, wildlife surveys and orchard care. Bring stout shoes or wellies; under-18s need a parent or guardian with them.
Join Friends of Haslam Park for practical environmental volunteering in and around Haslam Park, with tasks that support the nature reserve, woodland, orchard, rose garden and sensory garden. Activities can include balsam bashing, tree planting, tree removal, coppicing, pond work, orchard work, grass cutting and raking, hedge maintenance, wildlife surveys, and general garden care.
The group usually meets at the allotment cabin on the second Thursday of the month from 10:00 to 15:00, and on the last Saturday of the month from 10:00 to 12:00. Volunteers should bring a packed lunch, suitable outdoor workwear, gardening gloves and stout shoes or welly boots.
The role is ideal for people who enjoy gardening, practical skills, wildlife and the environment, and who are happy to get involved outdoors.
This volunteering opportunity is suitable for under 18s, although young volunteers need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The role takes place at Haslam Park in Preston and involves rough ground at times. Training and ongoing support are provided, and expenses are reimbursed.
