Want a taste of Oxford science? Join Frontier to tackle Oxford-style seminars, build advanced thinking and research skills, and connect with Balliol tutors and peers—boost your uni application and explore science beyond the classroom.

Frontier is Balliol College’s science access programme for academically able Year 12 students at UK state schools. It is designed for students who are interested in studying a science-related course at a competitive university and want to experience Oxford-style academic work beyond the school curriculum.

The programme combines weekly online seminars held on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with preparation work in advance of each session. It begins in Spring Term and is followed by a two-night residential stay in Oxford in August, where participants complete an Oxford-style tutorial after preparing an essay, research brief or problem sheet.

The programme is free of charge, and travel support is available for the residential for eligible participants living in IMD Decile 1 or 2 households.
