Genomic Futures insight days are one-day, in-person events at the Wellcome Sanger Institute designed for Year 10 and Year 11 students interested in genomic technologies and related careers. Participants will learn about the journey from sample collection to data output, hear about cutting-edge research, and meet a range of staff working across research, technical and bioinformatics roles.

The day includes hands-on practical activities such as using micropipettes, gel electrophoresis and introductory bioinformatics, alongside tours of laboratories and facilities and talks from professionals about career paths in genomics, healthcare and research. Sessions run from 09:00 to 16:00 and are aimed at giving students practical experience and insight into real-world laboratory and data workflows.

The insight days are free to attend; lunch and refreshments are provided. Travel bursaries will be available for eligible students. Due to high demand, applications are shortlisted and priority is given to schools from underserved communities.

Applicants will be advised by email whether they have been offered a place.
