Geospatial Data Scientist Degree Apprenticeship

Airbus Defence & Space is recruiting for a Geospatial Data Scientist Degree Apprenticeship starting September 2026 based with the Geospatial Applications team. This is a 4-year integrated degree apprenticeship delivered in partnership with the University of Sunderland leading to a BSc Data Science.

The role is based across Airbus sites (Newcastle upon Tyne and Guildford) and combines on-the-job training with university study to develop skills in Earth Observation, satellite image processing and AI-enabled data analysis.

As a Degree Apprentice you will contribute to the design and development of satellite-derived products and analytics across thematic areas such as maritime, agriculture, humanitarian response, climate change monitoring and defence. Typical activities include EO algorithm development, big data and machine learning techniques, data fusion, automation of processing chains, and supporting operational project deliverables.

In your first year you will attend a week of team-building activities at an Outward Bound UK site and you will be expected to travel to various Airbus sites as required.
