Fancy showcasing your writing beyond the syllabus? Enter Girton College's Humanities Writing Competition to research objects from the Lawrence Room, craft an essay or creative piece, and boost your portfolio with Cambridge recognition. Explore, write, and connect with academic mentors.

Deadline in 80 daysPrize: Certificate of participation for every entrant.

Girton College’s annual Humanities Writing Competition invites Year 12 (or equivalent) students to research and write beyond the curriculum using one or more selected objects from the College’s Lawrence Room as starting points. Entrants may submit essays or creative responses (for example dramatic monologues, short stories or poems).

The competition is sponsored by Cambridge University Press and The C. Anne Wilson Fund.

Submissions must follow the Competition Rules: they must be the entrant’s own work (AI must not be used), include a validated cover sheet authenticated by the school, and adhere to the 1800-word limit (including footnotes). There is a limit of three entries per school.

Entries are submitted via the online Submission Form; emailed or posted entries will not be considered.

The competition is open to Year 12 students resident in the UK at the time of the award ceremony. Every entrant will receive a certificate of participation. Prize winners are selected by the judges, who reserve the right not to award prizes if entries are not of sufficient merit.

Full submission details, the cover sheet and the submission form are available via the competition webpage.
