Use the Mitchell Library’s archives and newspaper collections to research your own novel, with hands-on workshops led by library and archive staff. Hear Graeme Macrae Burnet discuss how research shaped Benbecula and His Bloody Project, then explore microfilm, bound newspapers, street maps and police records.

Join author Graeme Macrae Burnet for an afternoon exploring how archives and libraries can shape fiction. In a presentation followed by discussion, he reflects on the research behind his novels Benbecula and His Bloody Project, offering insight into how real-world sources, historical detail, and archival discoveries can feed into compelling storytelling.

The event continues with two hands-on workshops led by library and archive staff, using the Mitchell Library’s archives and newspaper collections to help you research your own novel. Participants will get practical tips for exploring resources such as microfilm, bound newspapers, street maps, and police records.

The session is designed for writers who want to build richer stories from real-life material, and it forms part of the LKN exhibition Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery, in partnership with the British Library and Scottish Book Trust.
