Spend two days in a hospital environment, meet healthcare professionals and explore NHS roles through work experience or taster days in Midwifery and Medical Physics. You can also complete 25 hours of virtual work experience at your own pace and receive a certificate.
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers work experience placements for young people who want to learn more about careers in healthcare. Placements give students the chance to gain first-hand insight into the hospital environment, build confidence, strengthen teamwork skills, and explore a wide range of roles across the NHS.
The Trust also runs taster days for areas such as Midwifery and Medical Physics, helping students meet professionals, visit departments, and understand different entry routes into these careers.
In-person work experience placements typically last two days, although an additional 25 hours of virtual work experience is available if a school or college needs a longer placement. The virtual programme can be completed at a flexible pace and, once finished, participants receive a certificate confirming 25 hours of virtual work experience.
A Healthcare Science virtual work experience programme, delivered with Springpod, is also available nationally for anyone aged 13 and over.
Applications are split between medical and non-medical routes. Medical work experience is arranged directly with consultants, while non-medical placements are applied for through the Trust’s application form.
Some departments have extra age-related guidance, and the Trust asks applicants to give sufficient notice so departments have time to review requests and complete any required checks.
