This intensive four-week summer school at Central Saint Martins (UAL) provides hands-on tuition in key professional design software and introductory web coding. The programme combines software instruction (Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom; HTML/CSS) with strong emphasis on creative ideas, research, typographic principles, analogue and digital photography, print production and portfolio development.
Teaching progresses from tutor-led exercises to more complex personal projects, with feedback sessions at each stage. The course includes studio visits and guest professionals, and offers opportunities to develop final outputs across small- and larger-format projects.
Materials and minor kit items are listed on the course page and students are advised to bring specified supplies and an analogue or digital camera if available. The course is aimed at beginners and hobbyists and is especially suitable for applicants preparing portfolios for undergraduate or postgraduate study.
Students will need an Adobe ID (created with a personal email) to access the Adobe suite on campus; if you do not have Photoshop you may sign up for Adobe's free 7-day trial (credit card required). Early booking is recommended as this short course runs once a year.
