Guildhall School of Music & Drama - Centre for Young Musicians Taster Course

The Centre for Young Musicians (CYM) Taster Course at Guildhall School of Music & Drama offers new and current students aged 8-18 the chance to try less familiar instruments for a taster period of up to three terms. Sessions run on Saturdays during term-time, typically from 09:00-17:00 (subject to individual timetables), and are based at Morley College, London Waterloo.

Students can choose from a selection of instruments subject to availability, including clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, recorder, viola, double bass, tenor horn and tuba. The course is ideal for beginners who are undecided about an instrument as well as existing music students wanting to try something different; some musical understanding is expected but prior experience on the chosen instrument is not required.

Applicants are assessed via their application form and by audition. Fees and payment: fees for 2025/26 are available on the Guildhall website and fees for 2026/27 will be confirmed in Spring 2026. Payment is requested termly or by 10 monthly standing order instalments; a term’s notice is required for withdrawal.
