Shadow healthcare staff or take part in supervised placements and practical learning in a real hospital. Explore clinical and non-clinical roles, from medical and dental work experience to routes linked to healthcare qualifications.
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust offers a broad work experience programme designed to widen participation and introduce students and local residents to healthcare careers. The Trust provides both clinical and non-clinical experiences, including shadowing, supervised placements and practical learning in a real hospital environment.
Opportunities include general work experience, placements linked to a recognised healthcare qualification, medical and dental work experience, and other routes into NHS careers. Participants can observe staff, learn about different roles across the Trust, and build confidence, knowledge and skills through hands-on experience.
The programme is intended to support people who might not usually get the chance to explore healthcare.
The Trust also uses its work experience and related pathways to help young people and local communities understand the range of careers available in the NHS. Alongside placements, it supports wider progression routes such as apprenticeships and supported internships, with a particular focus on inclusion, accessibility and helping people move towards employment.
