Join GVI's Sea Turtle and Marine Conservation teen volunteering program on the Greek island of Kefalonia, designed specifically for under-18 participants. Volunteers work on white sand beaches and in nearby seagrass meadows to monitor and protect loggerhead turtles nesting on the island and to survey habitats used by endangered green turtles.
Activities include recording nesting activity, protecting hatchlings during their first journey to the sea (seasonal and not guaranteed), and conducting seagrass and marine species monitoring.
The program runs in-person on field sites in Kefalonia with a 1:6 staff-to-participant ratio and around 15-20 hours of fieldwork per week. Typical placements are short (1-2 weeks), offering hands-on conservation experience and the chance to contribute directly to local marine research and protection efforts.
Participants should be prepared to follow health, safety and application requirements including travel/medical insurance, medical forms, and background checks where required.
GVI advertises financial support options through the GVI Foundation, including grants of up to USD13,000 and discounts of up to 80% for eligible applicants (grant applications invited by 30 Nov).
