Clear bracken, pull balsam and lay hedges while helping manage reserves for wildlife and connected habitats across East Gwent. Tasks vary with the seasons, and all tools and protective equipment are provided.

Join Gwent Wildlife Trust for practical volunteer days in the Usk to Wye area of East Gwent, helping to manage land for biodiversity and habitat connectivity. Volunteers work with the Assistant Nature Recovery Officer on reserves in and around Pentwyn, taking part in hands-on conservation tasks that support local wildlife and the wider landscape.

Activities vary through the year depending on the season and the needs of each reserve. Typical tasks include bracken bashing, scrub clearance, coppicing, balsam pulling, hedge laying, and path or boundary management.

The opportunity is designed to offer varied practical experience, with work that can suit different abilities.

Sessions usually run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, with activities generally taking place from 10am until 3pm. Volunteers should wear sensible clothing for the weather and sturdy work boots, and the trust provides all tools and protective equipment.
