Complete the programme successfully and you’re guaranteed an interview for the Manchester/Preston medical degree, with a slightly reduced academic entry requirement. Build your application through on-site study sessions, collecting units, a health-topic assignment and voluntary work in a healthcare setting.
Preston’s Widening Access Programme (PWAP) is a support programme for local students from colleges and sixth forms who want to pursue medicine. It is designed to help candidates strengthen their applications for entry to the University of Manchester’s medical undergraduate programme, particularly those from non-traditional backgrounds.
The programme includes a range of activities and study sessions delivered on site at the Trust. Students take part in timetabled sessions, work towards collecting units, complete an assignment on a health topic, and undertake voluntary work in a healthcare setting.
Successful completion of the programme leads to a guaranteed interview for the MBChB Manchester/Preston undergraduate programme, together with a slightly reduced academic entry requirement. The programme is therefore aimed at students who are serious about medicine and want structured support to develop their application and experience.
