Explore clinical and non-clinical roles across two Lancashire hospitals, with clinical placements from age 16. Depending on your department, you could rotate through medical and surgical wards, ophthalmology, pathology or dietetics.
Work experience with The Health Academy offers students and young people the chance to gain insight into both clinical and non-clinical roles across Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. Placements are available at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, with opportunities varying depending on the department of interest.
Clinical placements are available from age 16 and may include rotation-based experiences in areas such as medical and surgical wards, ophthalmology, pathology and dietetics. Some specialist areas, including maternity services and physiotherapy, are only available on specific programmes, while non-clinical placements are prioritised for 14 to 16 year olds who cannot access clinical areas.
Applications must be completed online through the NHS Careers NW registration system. Requests from 14 to 18 year olds need support from a school, college, university or recognised intermediary, while applicants over 18 need a referee.
Placements are allocated fairly, but availability is limited in some areas, so early application is recommended.
