Healthcare Data Models is an online course from the University of California, Davis that introduces core concepts and common data models used in healthcare data systems. Through four modules you will learn how data flows from point-of-care systems into data warehouses, compare conceptual and physical models (including star schema, relational and hierarchical models), and review common measures used in healthcare analytics.
The course explains how systems integrate data, why clear communication of data definitions matters, and how data quality is measured and improved. The course contains video lectures, readings, quizzes, discussion prompts and an assignment/peer-review component.
It is designed for learners with some related experience (intermediate level) who want to transfer or deepen data analytics skills in a healthcare context. Learning activities include examples of data normalization, data mapping, verification and validation techniques, and the creation of data dictionaries to support analysis and interoperability.
Learners who complete the course can add a shareable certificate to their LinkedIn profile or resume. Enrollment is flexible (self-paced) via Coursera; a paid Certificate experience is optional and financial aid is available for those who qualify.
