Get an inside view of an MP’s day-to-day work through office and parliamentary tasks: research issues, write press releases and answer constituents’ queries. Depending on your age and ability, you could accompany the MP to a meeting or event in the House or constituency.
Helen Grant offers work experience opportunities to students from the constituency who want to learn more about how local politics works. The placement is designed to give young people an insight into the day-to-day work of an MP and to help them build useful skills.
Participants may support a range of office and parliamentary tasks, depending on age and ability. These can include researching an issue, taking press cuttings, writing press releases, assisting with office duties, answering constituents’ queries by phone or email, and accompanying the MP to a meeting or event in the House or in the constituency.
Casework may also be part of the placement where appropriate.
This is an opportunity for students who are interested in politics, public service, communication and the workings of a parliamentary office. Anyone interested should contact the office to enquire about work experience.
