Manage a nature reserve through hands-on conservation tasks, from planting hedges and trees to cutting grassland and repairing fences. Join a regular team, learn from experienced reserve officers, and get stuck into outdoor work in all weathers.
This volunteering role is part of Herefordshire Wildlife Trust’s practical conservation work at Tretawdy Farm Nature Reserve near Llangrove. Volunteers join a regular group to help manage the reserve through seasonal outdoor tasks that support wildlife habitats and the long-term condition of the site.
Typical work includes hedgerow management, cutting and raking grassland, repairing or replacing fencing, hedge and tree planting, and scrub management. The role is physical and can involve spending extended periods outside, so the Trust looks for volunteers with a reasonable level of fitness, the ability to follow instructions, and a willingness to work in all weathers as part of a team.
Previous practical conservation experience is not required. Volunteers may be offered training in practical management, survey skills, first aid and the use of power tools when appropriate, and all necessary tools, PPE and safety briefings are provided.
The role also offers a chance to learn from experienced reserve officers, meet like-minded people, and take part in social events organised by the Trust.
Free volunteering opportunity.
