Amey is recruiting a Highways Maintenance Operative Apprentice to join its Traffic Management team based in Staffordshire (29 Riverside, Rugeley, WS15 2YR). This is a paid, full-time apprenticeship role (Monday-Friday, 7:30-16:30, 45 hrs/week) starting April 2026.

The role involves working on highways maintenance activities across the account, delivering traffic management tasks such as stop/go boards, portable traffic signals, convoy working, road and lane closures, diversions and vehicle checks.

You will be enrolled onto the Lead Traffic Management Operative Level 2 apprenticeship (approximately 21 months) and supported by Amey's partnered training provider with 1-2-1 support, e-learning and technical mentoring. Core duties include carrying out risk assessments and method statements, assisting with vehicle checks and promoting safe systems of work while representing the company professionally on site.

Requirements include being at least 18 years old, holding a full UK driving licence and meeting the required academic standards (upload certificates or predicted grades; candidates without GCSEs must achieve entry level 3 in Maths and English during initial assessment). Successful applicants will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

The appointment is conditional on meeting the apprenticeship academic criteria.
