Explore postwar Glasgow’s organised-crime world through figures including Johnny Ramensky, Arthur Thompson and Paddy Meehan. Led by Dr Mark Roodhouse, this in-person lecture traces the Clydeside conurbation from the mid-1940s to the late 1970s.
This lecture explores organised crime in postwar Glasgow, focusing on the people Glaswegian criminologist John Mack described as the city’s “able criminals”. It looks at the Clydeside conurbation from the mid-1940s through to the late 1970s, using well-known figures such as Johnny Ramensky, Arthur Thompson and Paddy Meehan to illuminate the wider criminal world of the period.
The event is delivered as part of The Historical Association’s branch programme and is led by Dr Mark Roodhouse. It is an in-person talk hosted at Edinburgh University, with the room to be confirmed. The session is intended for anyone interested in modern Scottish history, crime, and social history, and it can be booked through the organiser’s Eventbrite page.
