Hear Dr Sarah Spooner present newly uncovered archival material on Earlham Hall’s architecture, landscape and residents, set in Norfolk’s wider history. Then join an optional walk using historic maps and archaeological evidence to trace how its grounds changed.
This branch event explores Earlham Hall, a familiar landmark on the University of East Anglia campus, through the lens of recent historical and archaeological research. Dr Sarah Spooner will present newly uncovered archival material relating to the Hall’s architectural development, its landscape, and the people who lived there, placing the site within a broader Norfolk context.
The talk is followed by an optional walk around the designed landscape, where participants can use historic maps and archaeological evidence to trace how the grounds have changed over time. It is a good opportunity for anyone interested in local history, historic buildings, landscape history, or country houses to hear about fresh research and see how different kinds of evidence can be combined to reconstruct the past.
