This Historical Association branch event explores how notable women are commemorated and remembered. The talk focuses on the stories behind five statues and the Purple Plaques being put up in memory of women whose achievements deserve greater recognition.

The presentation brings together examples of public memorials and the lives behind them, showing how history is preserved through statues, plaques and local remembrance. It finishes with the story of Elizabeth Miles, owner of the Metropole Hotel in Llandrindod Wells, highlighting a further example of an important woman whose legacy is being kept alive.

It is an in-person history talk for anyone interested in women’s history, memorials and the ways communities choose to honour significant figures from the past.
