Dr Emily Winkler guides you through the Bayeux Tapestry’s account of 1066, from the build-up to the battle and aftermath. Explore how its imagery shaped views of Harold Godwinson, William of Normandy and the Norman conquest, then ask questions; members can watch a recording afterwards.

This live webinar explores the Bayeux Tapestry as a source for understanding the events of 1066. Dr Emily Winkler will guide viewers through the story told by the tapestry, from the build-up to the battle itself and its immediate aftermath, and explain why it remains such a powerful way of interpreting one of the most famous moments in British history.

The session is aimed at pupils, students and teachers, and schools can join together as a class or in smaller groups so learners can ask questions during the webinar. Dr Winkler will also discuss how the imagery in the tapestry has shaped historical understanding of Harold Godwinson, William of Normandy and the wider Norman conquest.

A recording will be available for members after the live event.
