The Murray Edwards Sixth Form Lecture Series is a programme hosted at Murray Edwards College that explores A-Level texts and topics across arts and language subjects. Sessions dive into English Literature, History of Art, French, Spanish, Classics and other arts and language-based disciplines, presenting familiar materials in fresh and engaging ways tailored to sixth-form study.
Each lecture evening begins with refreshments and informal conversation with current students from 17:30, followed by a one-hour lecture starting at 18:00. The series is free to attend and is aimed primarily at Year 12 and Year 13 students, with parents, teachers and advisers also welcome.
Attendees can sign up to receive post-lecture resources and updates via the college's online form. One listed lecture, "Using Art Sources to Understand the Restoration," is given by Professor Lydia Hamlett, whose research focuses on early modern mural painting and visual culture.
Professor Hamlett brings experience from roles in research and curating at institutions such as the Tate and the National Trust, offering specialist insight useful for A-Level History of Art and related subjects.
