Apply NowCurious about a career in law? Join Hogan Lovells' First Steps to Law - a self-paced virtual internship - and access Pathways to Law with Sutton Trust. Explore real legal projects, build practical skills and boost your uni/career prospects.
Hogan Lovells offers school-leaver opportunities through two complementary programmes: First Steps to Law (a self-paced virtual internship) and participation in Pathways to Law run in partnership with the Sutton Trust. First Steps to Law gives participants the chance to experience a project that mirrors real legal work, understand the skills used in the firm, and access the virtual programme year-round with no application required.
Pathways to Law is a targeted outreach programme that runs across two academic years, starting as students head into Sixth Form/College and finishing before Year 13 exams. The Pathways programme includes skills workshops, mentoring, networking, university taster sessions and a one-week work experience placement with Hogan Lovells (the firm hosts 20 Year 12 students for a week’s placement during February half-term).
Students also have access to a residential conference (held at the University of Warwick) and partner employer placements lasting 3-5 days.
Both programmes are designed to broaden access to legal careers for students from a variety of backgrounds. First Steps is available year-round and requires only a browser (Chrome or Firefox). Pathways students receive tailored application support, employability training and, via the Sutton Trust, participation is free and includes travel and accommodation support where provided.
Both programmes are free to access. Pathways to Law is run in partnership with the Sutton Trust and is stated to be free, including travel; First Steps virtual internship is available year-round at no cost.
