Spend two days seeing how an award-winning visitor attraction works, from welcoming guests to supporting school groups and exploring museum objects. You may shadow teams across learning, marketing and communications, collections and ticketing, and hear staff share their roles and experiences.
Hopetown Darlington offers a two-day work experience placement for Year 10 and Year 12 students who want to find out what it is like to work at an award-winning visitor attraction. Students get the chance to see how the attraction operates for heritage audiences, families and rail enthusiasts, as well as how it runs as a business.
During the placement, students may shadow different teams and take part in a range of tasks. These can include supporting the Learning and Access Officer with school groups, observing the Welcome team in public areas, helping the Marketing and Communications Officer, working with museum objects alongside the Collections Engagement Manager, and seeing how the Systems Administrator manages ticketing, technology and systems.
Students will also hear about staff roles and experiences and work with the team in a practical, collaborative setting. There is a limit of two students per week, and applications are considered carefully because demand is high.
