The SoulMates Teen Volunteer Program at Hospice & Community Care offers area teens (ages 15 6) the opportunity to learn about volunteering in a hospice setting and to make a meaningful contribution to patients and families. The programme includes a comprehensive training programme to prepare volunteers for safe, compassionate roles within the organisation.

Volunteer roles include providing companionship to patients, recording patient interviews and life reviews, greeting visitors at the Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Center, assisting with landscaping and gardening projects, playing music or singing for patients and families, supporting community events, and participating in the Sunshine Crew (holiday crafts, birthday cards, baking, etc. ).

Benefits include fulfilling school service-learning/community service requirements and gaining experience to strengthen college or job applications.

Requirements include being aged 15 6, attending an in-person volunteer training session (offered quarterly), submission of a parental consent form, and having a flu vaccination and TB test (the TB skin test is paid for by the organisation). For more information or to apply, contact Jen Horan, Director of Volunteer Services, at (717) 735-2466 or jhoran@hospicecommunity.
