Provide one-to-one support to help people navigate benefits, health assessments, child protection and education choices, in person or by phone. Build rapport, stay independent and confidential, and empower people to feel heard; training and ongoing support are provided, with expenses reimbursed.
This volunteering role involves providing one-to-one support and advocacy for people who may need help navigating benefits, health assessments, disabled parents' issues, child protection processes, and challenges around education choices for young people. Support may be offered face to face or by telephone, making the role suitable for someone who wants to help people in a flexible way.
Volunteers should be able to encourage and empower others, helping them feel they have a voice when they feel powerless. The organisation is looking for someone with good rapport, but who does not give advice, and who can remain independent, non-judgemental and confidential in their approach.
The role asks for around three hours per week, preferably for six months. Training is provided, ongoing support is available, expenses are reimbursed, and volunteers are covered by insurance. A DBS check is required, and the opportunity is suitable for under 18s.
