Immerse Education’s Biotechnology Cambridge Summer School is a two-week, pre-university programme for students aged 16-18 that combines practical laboratory sessions with university-level academic teaching. The course focuses on interdisciplinary biotechnology topics relevant to medicine, agriculture and environmental science and is delivered by tutors with advanced degrees.
Small class sizes (typically 7-10 students) allow for personalised feedback and one-to-one tutoring. Participants undertake in-depth academic sessions, a self-directed personal research project and receive 1:1 tutorial support to develop analytical skills and research methods.
The programme includes hands-on lab work, guest speaker sessions and opportunities to create a project that can be used on university applications. Students earn a certificate of achievement on completion and may opt in for an official UCAS points add-on (8 UCAS points) where eligible.
Residential participants stay in Cambridge University colleges (13 nights) with meals and social activities included; a non-residential option is available. The course aims to prepare ambitious sixth-form students for university study and to strengthen UCAS applications through academic depth, practical experience and mentoring.
