For Black heritage students, attend around five events each academic year exploring STEM through campus masterclasses, lectures and careers sessions, with guidance from current university students and staff. Older participants can also get help with applications, admissions tests and interviews, plus optional UCAT preparation.
STEM Futures is a multi-year outreach programme from Imperial College London for Black heritage students who are interested in STEM degrees and careers. It is designed to help participants explore the wide range of subjects within science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine, while building confidence, study skills and awareness of university pathways.
Participants attend around five events each academic year, usually delivered in person across Imperial’s South Kensington and White City campuses, with some online sessions included. Activities can include masterclasses, lectures, careers sessions, study skills workshops and personal development workshops, alongside guidance from Imperial students and staff who share experience of studying STEM subjects at university.
There are two strands of the programme: one for students in Years 10 and 11, and another for students in Years 12 and 13. Younger participants explore different STEM fields, university life and early preparation for A-level choices, while older participants receive subject-specific support, help with university applications, personal statements, admissions tests and interviews, plus optional medicine-related support such as UCAT preparation.
