Develop an idea into a finished project using 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking machinery and more in a dedicated makerspace. Build practical and teamwork skills with support from staff and students, then show your creation at a final showcase for families and teachers.
The Maker Challenge is a hands-on programme for young people local to White City who want to develop an idea and see it through to creation. Participants get access to cutting-edge technologies and a dedicated makerspace, where they can learn to use a range of making tools and techniques with support from Imperial staff and students.
The programme is designed to build both practical and soft skills. Young people can expect to work on product development, team-building, presenting and communicating, while also experimenting with equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, scanners, woodworking machinery, hand tools and craft materials.
There is also a final showcase where families, teachers and parents can see the finished projects.
The experience is non-residential and runs over multiple sessions across the year during school terms and the summer holidays. Participants choose between two weekday groups and are expected to attend as many of the sessions as possible, with all materials provided and refreshments included.
